Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok has waded into the debate on whether political leaders should be subjected to limits to the amount they can contribute in churches.
Speaking Sunday at the Eagles Christian Church in Karen, the county boss contended that efforts at introducing legislation to limit political leaders' contributions were unconstitutional and in contravention of the Bill of Rights.
"Those legislating against the Bill of Rights in our constitution are legislating to fail. They are legislating in bad faith. The Constitution doesn't allow third legislation.
"And I hope that the members of Parliament who are here will have to read the Bill of Rights and find that that bill that is being proposed to limit and stop our leaders from contributing to our faith that that bill is against our constitution, " Governor Nanok said.
A section of leaders have called for limits to be placed on contributions made by political leaders.
Leaders allied to Deputy President Dr William Ruto have read malice in the proposal saying it is aimed at derailing the DP's 2022 presidential ambitions.
The deputy president has maintained that nothing will stop him from making contributions to churches.
Allies of ODM party leader Raila Odinga have called for churches to vet the sources of the contributions of political leaders before accepting them.
