Renowned socio-political commentator Dismus Mokua has contended that the handshake has given President Uhuru Kenyatta the insurance to do what he wants.
Speaking on Sunday during a wide-ranging panel interview, Mr Mokua said that the head of state had the numbers to push through his agenda in both houses of parliament without having to worry about defeat.
He cited the ouster of former Kiambu county boss Ferdinand Waititu from his position as governor, which was supported by senators widely regarded as the allies of the head of state and his long-time adversary Raila Odinga.
"The BBI or the handshake has given President Uhuru Kenyatta good insurance to do whatever he wants to do. When he decides with his brother Raila Odinga to push a particular agenda, they are going to achieve the objective. So even if members of Tangatanga in the National Assembly and Senate do not want to play ball,, this has demonstrated to Kenyans that if the two want to push a particular agenda it will go through, " Mr Mokua said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr Odinga shook hands in a dramatic display of reconciliation in 2018, reducing the months-long tensions that the country was grappling with.
Their allies in the Senate have vowed to support whatever legislative agenda they may have giving the head of state the ability to have his way in the houses of parliament.
