Speaking to Hivisasa at the site on Monday, the residents have accused the Kisii County Government which collects the garbage using compressors over laxity risking their health.

"We are annoyed. This garbage has been here for over three weeks now. We have hotels here and business, customers have run away because of the smell. This is unacceptable. We are inhaling toxic gas," said Job Makori.

Janet Mokeira said the County officers visit the site and promise them daily to take action but since nothing has happened. She says the collection container they used to dump was ejected at night by unknown people.

"We used to have a container here but one morning we woke up to find it has disappeared. They always come here, they make calls promising to remove the garbage but nothing has happened," she pleaded.

"We want the County Government especially our MCA who we elected to help us clear this mess. If they don't know their work let them tell us we act. People here complain of typhoid because when it rains all these garbage goes down there into the river," She added.

They have threatened demonstrations if the county will not move with speed to remove it.

The locals are staring at a health crisis if action is not taken soon.
