The three on Saturday joined hands in Kibra for ODM candidate Imran Okoth, with Ngilu and Mutua declaring support and even campaigning for the ODM candidate.

As this signals the start of a new alliance between the two before the 2022 polls, Mutua said that Imran also enjoys the backing of Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana.

The three governors have since fallen out with Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who twice, in 2013 and 2017, was Raila's presidential running mate.

However, Mutua said that his presidential aspirations for the 2022 polls remain alive, as he drummed up support for Imran at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation offices.

“As a youthful leader who will go for the presidency in 2022, I ask for your support,” said the Machakos governor as quoted by Daily Nation.

Ngilu is the Kitui Governor.

In Machakos, Kalonzo's allies bashed ODM for disrespecting the Wiper party, with Kathiani MP Robert Mbui accusing ODM of refusing to share political funds with its National Super Alliance (NASA) sisters.

He demanded that ODM stops mocking Wiper, as it played a major role in enabling NASA scoop slots in Ukambani region.

"If it were not for Wiper party leader Kalonzo and his brigade, NASA would not have gotten overwhelming support in Ukambani. It is either the two complaints I have raised with the ODM leadership are resolved, or it will never be business as usual," Mbui said.

The Wiper party has supported Ford Kenya's Khamisi Butichi in the Kibra race.
