Political tensions forced Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, then the Majority Whip to snub former Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang's funeral.
At Waondo village on Friday, Murkomen sent mourners of the late senator's mother into stitches when he explained how handshake has smoothened political temperatures in Kenya.
Murkomen, who is now Senate Majority Leader, said he was unable to attend the funeral because he feared for his life.
The Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator also narrated how he recently visited Raila Odinga's Bondo home where he was given good reception contrary to his expectations.
"The late Otieno Kajwang' was my friend before he died. But because there was no handshake, I snubbed his funeral. I thought you'd deal with me," he said.
"But now because there is handshake, I have come to mourn with the family. I knew I would get a nice reception. I was recently at Bondo and I also got a rousing reception until I was shocked."
Murkomen was attending the funeral to Mama Dorcas Ajwang', the mother to current Senator Moses Kajwang' and Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang'.
Otieno Kajwang', the then ODM Vice Chairman, died in 2014 under unclear circumstances. Details about his death are yet to be made public.
While Murkomen was still serving Jubilee leadership, Kajwang' was among politicians who gave Jubilee administration hard times when it took over in 2013.
