Deputy President William Ruto has backed the Nakuru County Government’s push to have Nakuru town elevated to city status.
Speaking during the launch of Nakuru AIPCA Cathedral in Flamingo Estate on Sunday, Ruto said that the town has met all the requirements.
The deputy president told Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui that he will be among the happiest persons to see the town elevated to city status. He also said that Nakuru will be the first and only city in Rift Valley region if the government grants residents their wish.
“Once you are done with what is in your power, I will be waiting for you, ready to support this nobble dream. This will be a dream come true for our people getting the first city in Rift Valley region,” he said, as quoted by Standard.
Ruto said that Nakuru has already served as Rift Valley's regional headquarters hence it was time to be transformed into a city.
He also said that there are different projects the government has established in the county for the sake of the region's economic development.
The DP further said that the elevation of the town to city status will be a big boost to the region as far as development is concerned.
On his part, Governor Lee Kinyanjui said that the plans to elevate the town into a city are on course, adding that he will be glad if the dream comes true.
