Politician Koigi wa Wamwere has demanded an assurance from Deputy President William Ruto that all will be well in the Rift Valley region should he lose in the 2022 presidential race.
Speaking on Saturday, the veteran politician asked the DP to make it clear that there will be peace, whether or not the Kikuyu community in the region votes in favour of his (Ruto) bid.
He noted that some Kikuyu politicians living in Rift Valley have been using the narrative to force voters towards the DP, hence the need for Ruto to denounce such allegations.
"Let the Deputy President make an assurance that there will not be any trouble and nobody will be threatened with beatings or burning of their property if they don't vote for him. (Naibu wa Rais ahakikishe eti hakutakuwa na shida yoyote na hakuna mtu atatiwa woga eti atapigwa ama atachomewa vitu vyake kama hatampa kura)," said the former Subukia lawmaker.
Wamwere, also a former Assistant Cabinet Minister spoke on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche show on Saturday evening.
He also faulted the DP for claiming to stand for unity while at the same time entertaining tribal delegations of politicians claiming to be working with him to avoid a political clash.
This was in reference to the Kikuyu politicians who visited his Sugoi home on Thursday, in the name of promoting a coalition between the Kikuyu and Ruto's Kalenjin communities.
"It is surprising that the DP claims eager to unite Kenyans yet he is still receiving tribal leaders claiming to be in pursuit of safety. (Ni ajabu eti DP anasema ako na hamu ya kuunganisha wakenya na bado anapokea viongozi wa kikabila, wanaosema wanaenda kutafuta usalama)," he noted.
