Deputy President William Ruto wasnonce again treated to a himiliating reception by county and regional police bosses during his tour of North Mugirango on Monday.
The DP has lately been experiencing a situation where police bosses snub his functions contrary to protocol, which dictates that they must be at hand to receive him at his functions.
However, he proceeded to rubbish claims that his position as the second in command has been weakened, insisting that he remains firm in his position.
Leaders who accompanied him led by Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi him promised him their full backing in his 2022 presidential bid.
“We are here to assure the deputy president that the Gusii Community is solidly behind him in 2022,’’ the Deputy county boss was quoted by the Standard.
South Mugirango said that the region prefers the DP over Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi, who, however, haild from the region, but is yet to declare interest in any seat.
“Currently our brother Fred Matiang’i is holding the third most powerful position in government. He should serve our community’s interests first before thinking of vying for the presidency,” said the youthful parliamentarian.
Lamentations from the DP's quarters over the withdrawal of security bosses at his functions have seen him and his allies clash with Interior PS Karanja Kibicho.
The PS has been accused of frustrating and demeaning DP for political reasons, and is part of the team that has reportedly been planning his assassination.
An initial attack on him by Ruto's allies saw him repond that it is the responsibility of the DP to notify his office of his (Ruto) plans to be allocated the reception he desires.
