Renowned TV analyst Mark Bichachi has weighed in on the upcoming Kibra constituency by-election slated for November 7.
Speaking during a wide-ranging panel discussion aired on KTN, Sunday, Bichachi expressed his dismay at the conduct and course of the campaigns.
The analyst contended that the foray of national leaders into the parliamentary fray in Kibra had turned the campaign into a tribal affair instead of an ideas-based contest.
"This is the one constituency where you would expect that the voters would have chosen idea for idea, the saddest thing is when we brought national leaders into the debate, it became about tribe," Bichachi said in as quoted in a tweet by KTN News Alerts.
The Kibra by-election has been framed in some quarters as a contest between veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga and his long-time political adversary Deputy President Dr William Ruto.
The two leaders descended on the constituency to drum up support for their respective candidates fueling speculation that the by-election is a proxy war between them.
Former Harambee Stars star McDonald Mariga, who is the governing Jubilee candidate in the Kibra parliamentary race has been said to be a project of the DP.
In a bid to bolster the prospects of the ODM candidate Imran Okoth of being elected, the party leader Raila Odinga has been meeting with the members of various communities living in Kibra.
