Deputy President William Ruto thinks that he is equally a president, former Cabinet Minister Burudi Nabwera now says.
According to the ageing former politician, the DP's latest actions point at a man who thinks that he shares in the presidency, which he said is also the case among his allies.
Speaking on Wednesday, he termed this the reason behind the apparent clash between the DP and President Uhuru Kenyatta, resulting in the said widening rift between them.
"The problem we are in is a belief by Dr Ruto and his team that he has equal rights to the presidency, that's not the case," he said in an interview with the Citizen TV.
He pointed out that the DP seems not to realize that the country is being governed by the American system, which puts the deputy directly under the president.
According to Nabwera, based on the constitution of the day, the DP has no option but do as ordered by the president and not be seen as contradicting him in any way.
"This is the American system and in the American system the vice does as instructed and is all the time with the president and will never contradict the president," he added.
