Shinyalu Constituency National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) under MP Kizito Mugali has since proposed Khayega grounds as the place to relocate Khayega Primary School on temporary basis.

The MP has directed that the school, whose structures are in deplorable state, be demolished and relocated to the grounds to give room for construction of proper structures in the school.

However, the same has been met by rejection by sporting stakeholders in the area, who have argued that it will interfere with the actual purpose of the grounds.

Kakamega Sub Branch Football Kenya Federation Youth Leader Andrew Likabo on Friday said that the plans will disrupt sporting plans which are already in place.

"As we approach the festive season, various tournaments have been lined up and it is from them that our youngsters are spotted and scouted by big clubs," he said.

He added that the MP has taken the wrong move and should have first made calculations on where to take the pupils before embarking on having the school demolished.

According to Likabo, the plan will also interfere with bullfighting matches which are normally held there, faulting the MP for making tje decision without seeking locals' opinions.

“The venue is also very important for bullfighting activities and also home to various churches. The decision was made without seeking public opinion and we are opposed to it,” he added.

At the same time, it has emerged that Kakamega County Government is also in the process of upgrading the very same location.
