Speaking on Tuesday in Nairobi, Kuria said that he is sorry that the budget committee has not lived up to the expectations of Kenyans

He opined that the government has subjected Kenyans to hard times when Parliament had the mandate to deal with the same.

He asked the entire nation to forgive the entire budget committee over what has transpired saying that the economy is not doing well because they slept on their job.

“As Parliament, we have failed Kenyans because we have sold to them the romantic story that all is well. We failed in our oversight role because we could have said NO but we said YES, selling lies that all is well. We are doing badly as an economy,” he said.

MPs are expected to debate the Finance Bill 2019 after President Uhuru Kenyatta rejected it a few weeks ago.

Uhuru said that most of the banks were compelled to adjust their lending models because of the Bill. He wants MPs to revise it before it can be presented to him for approval.

"Most commercial banks adjusted their lending business models towards large corporates and the public sector and away from small-scale borrowers and individuals," Uhuru said.
