Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has condemned the increasing cases of prefects and teachers assaulting students in their schools.
Speaking at Nanyuki Primary School on Wednesday, Magoha warned prefects against beating other students.
“I hope that our principals have taken full control because nobody and I want to repeat nobody is empowered to touch a child in school physically. So if there are prefects or any other human beings that are beating children in schools, that must stop immediately,” Magoha said.
Magoha’s statement comes at a time when the famous Nairobi School and Sawagongo High School in Siaya County are on the spot over reported cases of student assault.
At the Nairobi School, a Form Two student is said to have been continuously assaulted by a perfect to the extent of losing his memory and is currently under treatment.
Magoha further directed the administration of the two schools to present their report on the cases before the end of next week.
"For the two schools Nairobi and Sawagongo high school I would want a report on my desk by next week,” Magoha added.
