Former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto has suggested that cabinet secretaries should be appointed from serving MPs.
The vocal politician was speaking at a function in Rift Valley.
Rutto argued that appointing cabinet secretaries who are MPs would enable them to attend church services. He claimed that he never pumps into any cabinet secretary nowadays in places of worship.
"Mimi nataka wabunge wakuwe mawaziri ndio wakuwe kwa makanisa (I suggest cabinet secretaries should also be legislators so that they would be in churches)," argued Rutto.
Bomet ex-county boss opined that when cabinet secretaries avail themselves in places of worship, they would easily be accessible for accountability and scrutiny to the public with regards to their responsibilities.
He noted that it would be easy to access into a home of an MP who doubled as a cabinet secretary as it was before the new constitution came into place than the current cabinet secretaries, whose homes were not known.
"Where are these ministers?" he wondered.
"We want you to be accountable to the people. We will be coming to your houses to see you," he said.
Furthermore, he asserted that some cabinet secretaries were little-known by Kenyans including their roles, unlike elected leaders like legislators.
