Daniel Zimiyu is the men’s champion in the 13th edition of the Family Bank half marathon held in Eldoret on Sunday.

Speaking to the press after winning the race, Zimiyu said it was tough and competitive.  

“The race was very tough since there were many hills, but I thank God I became the winner. I am now preparing to participate in the Olympics next year,” he said.

Jelagat Nancy won the women’s category followed by Zippora Samum, and Mario Kibet respectively.

“It's through work, determination, practicing and praying that made me succeed. I am using this race to prepare for Standard Chattered half Marathon,” she said.

She urged upcoming athletes to compete in local races as they offer a platform to prepare for international races.

Family Bank Chairman Dr Wilfred Kiboro said the bank will continue supporting the race and called on residents to support the bank so that they can increase the prizes for winners to attract more people.

The marathon champions for inclusive education for children living with autism under the theme Champions Run for Autism.

On his part, Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago pledged continued support for the race and urged athletes to shun doping as it comes with dire consequences.
