Iran has issued an 'all-out-war' threat against either the US or the Saudis should any of them dare use military force against them.
The Foreign Minister of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif, issued the serious threat in an interview with the CNN on Thursday.
"I am making a very serious statement that we don’t want to engage in a military confrontation. But we won’t blink to defend our territory,” said Javad.
"We believe that a military confrontation based on deception is awful, and will have a lot of casualties" added Iran's top diplomat.
Mike Pompeo, US' Secretary of State, immediately condemned the statement.
“While the foreign minister of Iran is threatening an all-out war and to fight to the last American, we are here to build out a coalition aimed at achieving peace and peaceful resolution,” said Pompeo.
Iran's threat comes amidst heightened tensions in the Gulf following Saturday's attacks on Saudi's oil installation.
Although the Yemeni Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility, both the US and the Saudis maintain that Iran are responsible for the Saudi attack citing the advanced technology used in the attacks and the proximity to Iran.
“I think it’s abundantly clear, and there is enormous consensus in the region that we know precisely who conducted these attacks, and it’s Iran,” Pompeo is quoted by the Washington Post.
