Leadership crisis at the University of Nairobi (UoN) has taken a different twist after Prof Isaac Mbeche announced his return into office.
Speaking to K24 on Wednesday, Mbeche said that he was not on leave as claimed by Prof Kiama Stephen.
He insisted that he is in charge of the institution after he was directed to report back to work by the Ministry of Education, adding that the leave has been put aside following the directive from the ministry.
“I was called to act and I came back. Therefore, the leave is deemed to have been put aside,” said Prof Mbeche, as quoted by K24.
Prof Kiama who remains the UoN boss, as per a court ruling, had said that Prof Mbeche, who Education CS George Magoha appointed acting VC after revoking Kiama's appointment, was on leave and appointed Prof Madara Ogot as acting deputy vice chancellor for Finance and Planning.
Mbeche and Kiama have been in a fierce battle over the leadership of UoN, with each of them saying they are the ones in charge.
Magoha had revoked Kiama's appointment citing that the UoN council did not consult him before making the final decision.
