The first-term county boss has now ordered all beggars as well as their accomplices arrested with immediate effect.

Speaking at the county headquarters during the official launch of the PWD Sacco, Kiraitu said that the rising number of beggars on the streets of Meru is a subject of great concern.

He noted that the county government will not condone beggars and disabled persons staying on the streets all the time.

He asked families of the disabled persons to take them to centres where they can get assistance instead of taking them to town to beg.

Kiraitu said that it is unfortunate to note that some people want to take advantage of persons with disabilities to enrich themselves.

“All the people who bring in beggars to the streets should be arrested together with the beggars. I encourage them to instead join the PWD Sacco to benefit from skills training and financial support,” said the county boss as quoted by Standard.

He also said that his government has given tenders to disabled persons as he seeks to transform the lives of county residents.  During the meeting, he urged members of the public to join Saccoss so that they can change their lives in different ways.
