Former Gem Member of Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo has now alluded that the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) has done Kenya more harm than good.
In an interview with NTV Am Live on Tuesday, Midiwo said that Kenyans have no reasons to smile since the establishment of the railway line. He said that several towns have now collapsed because the railway was constructed away from them.
He said that the government also borrowed lots of money to finance the project thereby increasing the foreign debt burden.
The former lawmaker said that the feasibility test was not undertaken properly before the establishment of the project.
“SGR is a curse, look at the towns which have died because the train was built away from railway towns,” he opined.
On the leadership of this country, Midiwo said politicians are to blame for the problems that keep befalling Kenyans. He said that the leaders in different positions think that they are above the law and reminded them that they are not gods.
“Politicians are not God, whether it's Uhuru or Raila, there is only one God,” Midiwo said.
His remarks come after the government suspended plans to transport cargo from Mombasa to other parts of the country using the SGR.
A section of leaders from the coast region raised concern over the dwindling of businesses after the directive.
