Angry residents of Teso North in Busia county on Saturday stormed offices of an organization that have claimed has been extorting them in the name of tripling their money.
The group stormed Pamoja Pazuri Unique offices in Malaba Town, demanding their money which they had allegedly surrendered to the organization, alongside the promised interest.
The group, largely drawn from Malaba North and Malaba South Wards claimed that the organization took money from residents with the promise of handing it back tripled in a week.
However, they grew angry after not receiving their returns, threatening to camp outside the offices, with others threatening to burn it down as a show of their anger.
Among them was Imelda Shiuldi who said that she was yet to receive her Sh50,000 return, after investing Sh13,000 after three weeks of waiting.
"I have been coming here for the last three weeks. The only excuse they give is the director is out of the country and she is the one to sign our cheques. This is so disheartening because the money I deposited was meant for my children’s school fees,” she complained.
Mr Cleopas Omukanga made similar complains, saying that he is yet to receive his anticipated Sh7,000 after placing Sh2,000, and has been following up for a month.
“I am totally disappointed. We will camp here until they give us a clear answer. I have been tossed around for more than one month now and every time I come to pick my cheque the manager tells me Madam Director is out of the country and we should wait,” he said.
It took the intervention of Teso North Sub County Police Commander to calm the group which was baying for the blood of the organization managers.
The police boss said that he is looking into the matter, promising to have a solution within a week's time.
