Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino on Wednesday opened an Astroturf football pitch at Fedha Estate in Embakasi East.
The outspoken legislator through his Facebook page noted that children will have a good place to exercise and grow their talents.
"Our school fields have been grabbed and open spaces are taken over by construction projects. Our children no longer have safe spaces to play in. I, therefore, took great honour in opening Embakasi East’s inaugural Astroturf football pitch in Fedha Estate," he said.
The former Students Organization of Nairobi University (SONU) chairman pointed out that Nairobi's populations, which is approximately a million people has denied children good fields to play and enjoy themselves.
He noted that all areas are being filled with development projects leaving no room for games fields.
Mr Owino was happy as the field will make the youth in the area occupied even at night exercising or play in different competitions.
This will help them avoid being idle. According to him, idle kinds engage themselves in unwanted activities such as alcoholism and drug addiction.
He vowed to continue working for the people who elected him into power.
"And we will continue serving you (Na tutazidi kuwahudumia!)," he said.
