Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has reiterated his commitment to revamping the ailing coffee sector in the county.
Speaking in his office on Wednesday when he received a team from the Coffee Research Foundation led by Director Elisha Gitau, Ongwae blamed the collapse of the coffee sector in the country on poor policies.
"As the governor of Kisii I have confidence that the coffee sector in the county will be revamped as this will enable farmers to reap maximum benefit from the crop," said the county boss.
The second term governor appealed to the Coffee Research Institute officials to help the county in finding lasting solutions to overcome challenges bedevilling operations in the coffee industry with regard to crop husbandry.
Ongwae challenged Kisii residents not to uproot coffee from their farms saying his efforts to revamp the coffee sector will not go in vain.
"Residents who have plans to uproot the coffee plants from their farms need to be patient as solutions to the challenges are being addressed by experts. Brokers who have been exploiting coffee farmers will not have room. Farmers need to get profit from their hard work," said Governor Ongwae.
