The three had been accused of failing in their responsibility of taking care of the students thus leading to the drowning incident.

The trio, Kennedy Musyoki, Faustina Chelimo and Francis Nyasera were acquitted by Senior Resident Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe at Kithimani Law Courts on Friday.

The three were found innocent following the September 2018 incident where four students, three boys and a girl drowned in River Athi while swimming.

The teachers had accompanied the students for a geography study near the river when the incident occurred.

It is reported that the four students who drowned had complained of a hot and sunny afternoon before jumping in the river.

According to the magistrate, the students had been warned against swimming in the river but disobeyed orders from the teachers.

In his ruling, Magistrate Shikwe noted that there was no enough evidence to show the teachers were responsible for the accident.

Five students who were present during the incident were among the witnesses who testified in the case.
