The lawmaker was freed after he denied charges of abuse of office and conspiracy to defraud Nairobi County government.

Aduma was arrested on Thursday by sleuths from the office of Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over his links to economic crime.

Chief Executive Officer of the EACC Twalib Mbarak said that the lawmaker had been directly linked to a plan to defraud the county government alongside his accomplices.

“Today, 11th, July 2019, EACC arrested Hon. Aduma Joshua Owuor, the Member of Parliament of Nyakach Constituency in Kisumu," read the EACC statement in part as quoted by the Standard.

He was charged with conspiracy to commit an economic crime and abuse of office.

The legislator reportedly committed the crimes during his reign as the Director, Legal Affairs under the leadership of Former Governor Evans Kidero, who is also facing graft charges.

The MP was asked to shed more light on why the county government had paid Sh68 million to a law firm without a clear explanation or documentation of the same.

The amount was reportedly paid to the M/S Wachira, Mburu, Mwangi and Company Advocates.

According to EACC, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) had given the detectives a go-ahead to arrest the suspect and present him to court over the matter.
