A mysterious disappearance of a 49-year-old teacher who travelled to Nairobi to allegedly take part in marking the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination has caused tension among his family members.
Mr Moses Odumbe, a teacher at Kogana Primary School in Rachuonyo North Sub-county, lost communication with his family shortly after arriving in Nairobi on November 9.
Standard reports that Odumbe checked into the exam marking center at St Georges Girls Secondary school but failed to take part in marking as he disappeared later on.
His wife, Joyce Odumbe, has consequently called upon various stakeholders in the government including the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) to help in locating the teacher.
“My husband left home for an exercise organised by KNEC. I call on the council to liaise with the other government agencies to help me find him,” Mrs Odumbe was quoted by Standard.
She said the family is living in fear as efforts to search for her husband by the relatives were fruitless. She added that her teacher has been participating in marking the national examination for approximately 20 years.
"My husband has gone there for almost 20 years. And this thing has never happened. This is the first time. I am scared," she also told Citizen TV.
The matter has been reported to the office of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) by Kogana headteacher Carol Onyango.
Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) chairman in Homa Bay County Patrick Were has also called upon KNEC and various security agencies to intensify the search for the teacher.
