Nakuru Deputy Governor (DG) Dr Erick Korir has warned politicians against peddling lies regarding the benefits of Nakuru acquiring a city status.
Korir noted that dishonesty among politicians may make Nakuru residents feel left out in the journey to the city status.
He dispelled sentiments made by a section of politicians that the cost of living would go up once Nakuru becomes a city.
The DG explained that any change on taxes, rates and other charges must first go through public participation, debated and passed by the County Assembly of Nakuru, before being implemented.
He was speaking at Kivumbini Ward in Nakuru Town East sub-county on Thursday where he opened ECDE classes at Baharini, Nakuru East and Kaloleni primary schools.
The Deputy Governor also launched the construction of a 3.7 kilometers storm water drainage system that will cost approximately Sh140 million.
A section of Nakuru leaders led by Senator Susan Kihika had earlier in the month stated that the upgrading of Nakuru town into a city should be suspended citing unpreparedness.
However, Korir said the county government was working round the clock to meet all the requirements to have the city status charter by the end of the year.
Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria said the concerned agencies should ensure the lives of ordinary people are not be affected negatively by the city status.
