Garissa Township Member of Parliament Aden Duale has urged Garissa residents to be counted in the county.
The outspoken legislator contended that this would go a long way in ensuring that the county does not lose a single constituency in the next delimitation of constituencies.
"For me I just want Garissa county within its six constituencies people to be counted so that Garissa county does not lose a constituency in the next delimitation of counties," the Garissa MP said.
The census numbers could see certain constituencies scrapped for failing to meet the constitutional threshold.
Politicians have urged their constituents to ensure that they are counted in their home constituencies to prevent the prospect of them being scrapped for failing to meet the threshold.
The head count kicked off on Saturday in all the 47 counties.
Aden Duale was enumerated on Saturday and has appealed to the people of Garissa county to ensure that they are counted.
Allocation of resources by the national government to the county governments will be based on the data collected during the enumeration exercise.
Areas with huge populations will take the lion share of the resources.
Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang`i warned politicians against tampering with the exercise.
