Police in Eldoret have recovered 13 vehicles in Ndaptabwa, Nandi Count, suspected to have been stolen.
According to Uasin Gishu County Commander Johnston Ipara, this was following the tip by the public to the police special unit that there were suspected stolen vehicles.
“The intelligence-led us to Nandi county at a place called Ndaptabwa in the home of Gideon Kipkosgei within the home compound we were able to get 13 vehicles,” said the Uasin Gishu County Commander while addressing the media at Eldoret Central police station on Friday
He reiterated that one suspect, Gideon Kipkosgei, was arrested and is helping the police with investigations.
“Out of those 8 vehicles, 5 were tractors and all these vehicles are under the custody of Eldoret Central Police station,” added Ipara.
He further said that after a quick check on the vehicles, police found out that most of the chassis were tempered with.
According to the police boss, it is suspected that the vehicles were either diverted transit goods introduced into the local market or the good were smuggled from the neighbouring countries without following the laid down procedure.
He appealed to all Kenyans that have bought a vehicle or tractor from Gideon Kipkosgei to present that vehicle within the shortest time possible to Eldoret police station so that due diligence can be done by verifying the details.
