A section of local leaders in Taita Taveta has accused Deputy President William Ruto of masterminding the impeachment of Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja.
Samboja was ousted after a row with the county assembly escalated.
The leaders have alleged that Ruto organised secret meetings in Mombasa and Nairobi to push for the impeachment of the first time county boss.
Led by Taita Taveta ODM elections coordinator Thomas Jumwa, the leaders said that the DP pushed for Samboja’s ouster from office.
Jumwa said that they are aware that the Members of the County Assembly met Ruto several times before the impeachment.
He also said that the push for the removal of the governor from office will not materialise, adding that he is ready to fight back.
“We are aware that the DP met the MCAs twice and they also met some of his supporters in Nairobi and Mombasa,” Jumwa said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
On Friday, Samboja was handed a reprieve after the High Court in Nairobi blocked his ouster.
While delivering the directive, Justice James Makau said that the matter should not be forwarded to the Senate for further deliberations.
He also barred assembly’s Speaker Meshack Maghanga from sending the motion to the senate.
The impeachment comes several weeks after Samboja asked Ruto to keep off the affairs of his county.
