A section of members of the Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities living in Rift Valley on Thursday converged at the famous Silverline hotel in Eldoret with an aim of strengthening their existing relationship.
Elders of the two communities exchanged ‘Mursik’, the Kalenjin sour milk which symbolizes brotherhood, unity and cohesion.
Speaking during the event, politicians led by Kapseret Member of parliament Oscar Sudi and his Bahati counterpart Kimani Ngunjiri said the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto happened in Nakuru back in 2013.
“Our aim is to ensure that the two communities will live as brothers and sisters no matter the outcome of any elections. We have made a declaration that we shall continue coexisting, unite and cooperate with the current leadership and that no single person will ruin our relationship,” said Sudi.
The leaders also vowed to maintain peace and tranquillity noting that and no one shall come between them even as the country heads to the 2022 polls.
“As leaders, we will ensure that the two communities live peacefully as brothers and sisters with each other and we will never fight because of an election outcome whether it favours us or the other party," noted the Bahati MP.
