It seems Kenyan footballers are starting to shine from an early age after the 16-year-old full-back George Gitau completed a transfer to Championship side Middlesbrough in the middle last week.
Middlesbrough on Friday confirmed the signing of the promising defender on an academic scholarship.
Gitau has been indifferent clubs, including EPL side Arsenal, during his quest for sharpness for his promising football career.
“George] Gitau is our latest scholarship recruit for next summer. The Under-16 right-back was previously with Crystal Palace, Arsenal, and Brighton. Gitau is quick, athletic, and smooth in possession, and he impressed after a trial, Middlesbrough said in a statement as quoted by Goal.com
Middlesbrough noted that the defender will be joining other 12 young stars at their official Rockliffe football academy, where they will be coached to become great footballers in the near future.
“The youngster will join 12 other young hopefuls next summer on an academic scholarship at Rockliffe,” Middlesbrough added.
Another Kenyan making headline in football is Wilkins Ochieng who was signed by Belgian side Club Brugge on professional terms.
Ochieng's agent through Twitter confirmed his singing.
"We are glad to be part of this beautiful moment. Congratulations on signing your well deserved 2,5-year professional contract at @ClubBrugge, Wilkins Ochieng! ," J&S IFM tweeted.
