While announcing new changes to his government on Monday, Odoyo is among the new faces that President Uhuru Kenyatta has roped in to steer his agenda.

Odoyo won the Nyakach MP seat in 1997 on a National Development Party ticket which was then led by the then Lang'ata Member of Parliament Raila Odinga.

After the merger of NDP and KANU in 2001, he was appointed assistant minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the 2002 election, Peter Odoyo defended his seat on a NARC ticket and again, he was appointed assistant minister, but this time round in the Ministry of Labour.

The veteran politician, however, lost his seat to Polyns Ochieng during the 2007 general election and since then, he has failed to recover politically.

However, he enjoys one of the most respected political names in the region and is one of the key allies of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

He is an accomplished economist holding a master's degree in Economics from the University of Bradford and a Bachelor in the same field from the University of Wales.
