There was confusion in Nairobi's Kileleshwa Estate on Sunday, which saw police officers fire bullets at a city's judge's vehicle believing that there were criminals inside.
The officers, responding to reports that the judicial officers was being held hostage, shot at the vehicle in a bid to deflate its tyres, after receiving distress calls from his wife.
The wife told the police that the judge had not arrived home six hours after he told her he would, which saw her make a formal complaint at the Kileleshwa Police Station.
The judge's son told police that its teaching device showed that it was going around Lavington, Kabete and Kileleshwa, hence the suspicions that he had been kidnapped.
Police on patrol were ordered to trail it, before it was spotted in Kileleshwa at 6am Monday and shot at in a bid to stop it. But there was no one inside apart from the judge.
The wife said that she became worried after the man stopped picking her calls after their conversation at 10pm on Sunday, with the incident now being investigated.
The incident was confirmed by Nairobi Police Boss Philip Ndolo who said that the matter was being held professionally, adding that no injuries were recorded.
The matter was also reported to Chief Justice David Maraga and the Judicial Service Commission.
The vehicle was towed to the police vehiclensnd the judge allowed to go home.
