The extension of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) team's mandate has elicited divergent views from a number of the report's proponents.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga last week agreed to extend the team's term in office, although they did not give timelines.
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Monday told the Nation that the team's extended term was important and necessary.
According to her, the team will be able to execute and conclude some of the issues which were not properly handled.
“I support the extension of the BBI task force so that they can continue to lead the process until its completion. They are the best to capture and further the views and input of the public with neutrality as they are non-partisan. So far they have done a commendable job,” Waiguru told Nation.
But on his part, Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula over the weekend faulted the decision, arguing that it was not necessary.
According to Wetangula, the team has already done a good job and there was no need to have them in place during the implementation process.
“We support the good work that the BBI task force team did, but we don’t support the extension of its term,” Mr Wetangula said.
