The two leaders, whose meetings have been frequent since their reconciliation in March 2018, were among the dignitaries who attended Governor Ann Waiguru's wedding in Kiamugumo village.

And the two are expected to attend the funeral ceremony to the mother of former Presidential candidate Peter Kenneth, at the neighbouring Muranga in Gatanga.

Mama Rahab Wambui died last week after battling an illness for a long time at Nairobi Hospital. Both leaders sent their condolences after the demise.

“It is with profound sadness that I have this morning received news of the death of Mama Rahab Wambui Muhuni. Condolences to my friend Peter Kenneth and the entire family. I pray for God’s comfort and providence in this difficult period of mourning,” the President said through the State House Twitter handle

"My condolences go out to @Peter_Kenneth following the passing on of his Mother, Rahab Wambui Muhuni. May God grant him and the family strength and fortitude at this trying moment and may her soul rest in eternal peace. Poleni kwa msiba," Raila said on his part.

Mt Kenya region is hugely divided over Uhuru's impending retirement, a move that has seen leaders realigning themselves with to Kieleweke or Tanga Tanga team.

While the latter supports DP William Ruto's quest for State House, the former believes that Uhuru should give the region direction in 2022 polls.

Mr Kenneth, who also served as Gatanga MP, is among those believed to be top replacement for Uhuru from Central Kenya region. He's yet to declare interest for State House race.
