The comedian who rose from the slums to be among the most notable Kenyan comedians, cited that unemployment is one of the major problems affecting youths.

"The one thing that affects us as youths in the slums; You know there is nothing that hurts more than waking up early in the morning but you don't have anything to do for that day. You don't have anything to do. That is what happens to us (Kitu inatu affect pale hivyo mtaani; unajua hakuna kitu huwainauma kama umerauka ngware hauna usingizi but hauna kitu ya kufanya hiyo siku. Hauna kitu ya kwenda kufanya. Hio ndio kitu huta hapenia hapa hivi)," Kartelo said in a video shared by Chipukeezy on Instagram.

He went ahead to cite that formal employment sector cannot provide jobs for all the youths in the country even if they were qualified.

"There is the formal and informal sectors. The formal sector cannot provide jobs for all of us. There is no day the government will ensure it employs all of us no matter how much they promise to provide jobs. (Kunakuwa na formal sector na informal sector. Formal sector haiwezi tuandika job sis wote. Hakuna siku sisi wote ati gava ita make sure, ata hivyo venye wanasemanga wata create jobs)," Kartelo noted.

He had joined his fellow comedian and NACADA director Chipukeezy in hosting a youth talk.

The two advised youths to seek and create their own opportunities as opposed to waiting for white-collar jobs.
