Wahome said she has not received any money from the DP, noting she has not been in contact with him since the year began.

“I have not been paid. I have not seen or talked to Ruto since the year started. All those are lies,” she said.

The second-time legislator, who was once a fierce defender of Uhuru, has lately turned against her Jubilee party leader, accusing him of mismanagement of the economy and fighting democracy.

“The biggest existential threat to Kenya’s declining economy, democracy and freedom of speech is President Uhuru Kenyatta,” Wahome said on Friday during a function in Malindi.

The MP, who is also a lawyer, has vowed to continue questioning the President despite receiving heavy criticism from a section of leaders who she terms as 'sycophants'.

Speaking to Sunday Standard, Wahome said she was not afraid of not being reelected in 2022 for speaking her mind openly, and criticising what she believed was not being done right by the government.

“If that is what is going to cost my political seat, so be it. I am not a sycophant,” she said.

“People do not understand me. Kenyans are not used to hearing the truth. They get very rough when someone, especially a woman, stands for the truth,” Wahome added.
