The rivalry between Handshake team and Tanga Tanga brigade is set to be rekindled on Friday when Embrace team shall hold a mega rally in Kilifi.
Dubbed Embrace team, a group of women leaders supporting handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga will on Friday hold a mega rally at Karisa Maitha grounds.
The rally will be held at the home turf of Aisha Jumwa, the vocal Malindi MP, who has since ditched Mr Odinga for DP William Ruto.
"Tomorrow the @embrace_ke caravan heads to Kilifi County for the Mega Embrace Rally at Karisa Maitha Grounds from 9am to 4pm... hosted by Hon. Getrude Mbeyu. #EmbraceInKilifi," tweeted Likoni MP Mishi Mboko.
Coincidentally, the rally comes at the time Ms Jumwa is facing rebellion from her successor, area Woman Representative Getrude Mbeyu.
Recently, Mbuyu accused Jumwa of forcing her out of Tanga Tanga. The two have also declared support for rival candidates in a ward by-election within Kilifi.
“I am an ODM member and I will support our ODM candidate to win the seat. As we speak now, I am from an Embrace rally in Kakamega. The team is coming to Kilifi at the end of this month,” she said.
Ms Mbeyu accused Ms Jumwa of chasing her out of the Ruto camp on grounds that she had “no votes” to offer the DP.
“If a friend tells me that I don’t have any vote to enable the DP to win the 2022 General Election, then let it be. But I want to tell the friend that she will be in for a surprise,” she said in a statement.
But in a rejoinder, Jumwa, who is serving her second term in parliament under ODM, said Mbeyu stopped supporting her when she declared intentions to succeed Amason Kingi.
“They supported me when ODM wanted to discipline me but stopped when I declared my interest to vie for Kilifi gubernatorial seat,” she said.
