Yesterday, police at Marura market in Chepkoilel rescued a middle-aged man from irate Boda Boda riders who wanted to kill him.
He was taken to Ainabtich chief's office. It was alleged that he had been accused of stealing a gas stove.
A video of the man being questioned by a policewoman and some members of the public, as he sat on a cement slab at the office was shared by the Eldoret Town News media company in their official Facebook page.
The man was at first, heard confirming that he was well known by the police officers after being suspected to be on the wrong side of the law a number of times by the public.
However, he defended himself by denying any wrongdoing, when the people surrounding him expressed their suspicions with his character.
"Sijakataa, lakini sijafanya anything (I do not deny that, but I have not done anything)," responded the man when the witness wondered why he was well known.
Policewoman queried another man who had witnessed the suspect being chased by the irate mob on why they (the Boda Boda riders) intended to lynch him. He (witness) replied that they were shouting 'thief!' as they bayed for his (accused) blood.
"Alifukuzwa ni mwizi.Ndio hawa majamaa wa Boda Boda (he was chased as a thief. Those are Boda Boda riders)," argued the witness as he pointed out at the Boda Boda riders.
The officer further complained of how the accused had found himself in similar situations in the past. The suspect was still held at the chief's office, as the investigations into the matter were being carried out.
