A chief in Kisii County was on Tuesday slapped with a one-year jail term after he allegedly attempted to obtain Sh3,000 bribe.
According to Capital FM, Kiogoro location chief Pamella Moriasi was given an option of Sh6000 fine failure to which he will be remanded and jailed for the said period.
While delivering his ruling on the matter, Chief Magistrate Nathan Shihundu said that Moraisi had been proven guilty beyond doubt.
The suspect reportedly obtained the said amount of cash in October 2017.
Complainant, Hellen Nyanchama told the court that the chief had solicited for the bribe before she could write a good letter for her in a land dispute.
Nyanchama went ahead and sought help from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) offices in Kisii before the chief was arrested.
The detectives conducted an operation as the complainant handed over the money to the chief before arresting her.
While testifying in court over the matter, EACC report analyst Stephen Yatich said that he had the exhibits and proof on how the operation was conducted before the chief was arrested.
Shihundu ruled that: “I proceed to convict her of the offence charged. Under Section 215 of Criminal Procedure Code, the accused is fined Sh60, 000 in respect of the charges in default one-year imprisonment."
