Kiambu Deputy Governor James Nyoro has withdrawn official vehicles assigned to two county ministers over claims of engaging in politicking instead of service to residents.
Nyoro who has since taken over as the acting county boss on Sunday confirmed cracking the whip on Finance and Planning Executive Kigo Njenga and his Roads, Public Works, Transport and Energy counterpart Juliet Kimemia.
He said that the two, who are allies to embattled governor Ferdinand Waititu, were planted in the cabinet with the intention of sabotaging him.
According to Nyoro, who has been involved in a supremacy battle with the county boss, the duo has been “engaging in politics instead of development”, hence the punishment that was handed down on Friday.
Mr Njenga confirmed the same, and has since been depending on the vehicle of his Youth Affairs counterpart Karungo Wa Thangwa for his official duties.
“My official car was withdrawn this morning (Friday). (Mr) Nyoro is trying to humiliate me because he views me as a political threat and thinks I will vie for the governor’s seat in 2022. What he is doing is illegal,” he said.
Thangwa questioned the move, saying that Nyoro lacks powers to make such a decision.
"Such powers are only reserved for the governor. (Mr) Nyoro is only a ceremonial deputy governor,” he said.
Waititu has since been blocked from his offices, owing to his implication in graft dealings alongside members of his family, which has seen Nyoro assume power temporarily.
