Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has said that he will follow in the footsteps of President Uhuru Kenyatta if he is elected into power after his retirement.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Mutua said that Uhuru has initiated different projects in the country, adding that he has an exemplary development track record.
“Wananachi want development and I fully support such initiatives as this one done by our President. This is the kind of development that I will continue to champion and enhance in a Chap Chap manner when God willing, I become the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya in 2022," he maintained.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement leader also said that he discussed with the head of state the issue of the stalled Athi River to Machakos junction dual carriageway, noting that Uhuru directed the contractors to speed up the project.
He also promised to construct another dual road before he completes his second and final term in office.
“I committed that my Government of Machakos will construct another road so as to dual the section from Kyumbi to Machakos City so that motorists will be able to drive on a dual carriageway from Nairobi to Machakos City Centre. This will open up Machakos City and create wealth,” he said.
Mutua is set to lock horns with Deputy President William Ruto in the next presidential race.
