Fresh diploma and degree graduates will be absorbed as interns in the county government of Nakuru and receive a monthly pay of Sh15, 000.
The Nakuru County Assembly adopted this policy after the Internship Policy was tabled in the House.
The Labour, Gender and Youth Committee chairperson Daniel Githengi presented the bill in the Assembly and it was passed into law on Wednesday.
“The interns will be paid the stipend by the National Industrial Training Institute (NITA). In the event that NITA fails to pay, the host department still pays the stipend of not less than Sh15,000,” Githengi said as quoted by Standard Digital.
According to the MCA, a total of 275 youths (interns) will be given jobs every year at the county government of Nakuru.
Nakuru which has 55 wards will absorb 5 interns from each ward. They will be given internship opportunities in their different fields or related field of knowledge.
Only unemployed Kenyan graduates without any work experience will be given this opportunity.
Fresh diploma and degree graduates will be absorbed once after every graduation for internship opportunities.
They will be taken in for a period of three to twelve months or according to the period listed by the body regulating the profession.
The selection process will depend on a number of things. These include; merit, disability status, ethnic representation and gender consideration among other considerations.
The interns, according to the policy, once absorbed will be required to have a medical cover by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) or any other reputable medical insurance firm and a personal accident insurance cover during the whole period of internship.
