On Monday, Governors stormed Supreme Court where they presented a petition seeking to compel MPs to approve the disbursement of the funds.

Led by Council of Governors Chairperson, Wycliffe Oparanya, the leaders lamented that Parliament has resolved to frustrate them in their quest to deliver on their promises. The county bosses marched in solidarity chanting songs in protest against the lawmakers.

Some of the notable faces included Governors Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Anyang' Nyong'o (Kisumu), Mwangi wa Iria(Murang'a) and Martin Wambora (Embu). A spot check also showed some MCAs present during the protests.

Speaking in Tharaka Constituency after commissioning Tharaka Technical Training Institute, Deputy President William Ruto had pleaded with the Governors not to seek legal amendments but it is evident his plea fell on deaf ears.

He had also exuded confidence that an agreement would be reached out of court before the Governors took action.

“I am certain that we will agree and there is no need to take the drastic steps of moving to court. I want to persuade county governments to wait because we already have a structured engagement between the counties, national government, the Senate and the National Assembly.

That is what the Constitution anticipated; that there will be a discussion for the success of devolution,” the DP said.
