From Thursday, census officials have been moving around in an activity called pre-enumeration household listing to establish the number of householders in a given area before the actual count.

On Thursday, Citizen TV news Anchor Yvonne Okwara Matole revealed that she joined hands with her neighbours to chase away census officials who had gone to their area for the pre-listing exercise since they were not putting on reflector jackets indicating that they were census officials.

“The ones who came to my neighbourhood didn’t have this (a reflector jacket). In fact, I can say and my neighbours are watching on television, we chased them away because we had no idea who they were,” she said.

She spoke while hosting Obudho MacDonald who is the Director, Population Services Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).

Obudho said that the pre-listing exercise is being conducted during the day from Thursday to Sunday to establish the number of households in a given area for proper planning.

“The benefit of that is to help us know how the census officials will be moving around,” he said. The census exercise is conducted every 10 years.
