Lawyer Miguna Miguna has said that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) team's push for a referendum is going nowhere.
In a series of Tweets, Miguna said that there are many reports that are yet to be implemented by President Uhuru Kenyatta-led government citing the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC), Waki Report, Ndung’u and Agenda Four among others.
“The TJRC Report, Waki Report, Ndung'u Report, Agenda 4 items and the Constitution of Kenya 2010 have not been implemented. Amending the Constitution before their implementation is like trying to build a castle in the sky. It will not work,” he tweeted on Thursday.
Miguna also said that Uhuru is yet to compensate victims of the 2007/2008 Post Election Violence.
The lawyer said that there are different issues the government has to handle before rooting for changes in the constitution of the country to accommodate everyone.
“Hundreds of thousands of Kenyans who were displaced during the 2007/8 post-election violence haven't been resettled and compensated. Tens of thousands who were maimed and killed from 1992 to 2018 haven't received justice. 2.5 million are starving to death,” he said in another tweet.
It is widely expected that the BBI, formed after the famous handshake will recommend for a constitutional change through a referendum.
