Addressing the media in Nakuru on Friday during their Annual Councilors’ Conference,  led by their chairman Mayor Samson Nkanata, they decried the slow pace at which the process is being undertaken.

According to Nkanata, a delay in the process has continued to impact negatively on their welfare with some already experiencing medical complications due to their advanced aged.

“Some of us are at an advanced age and with health complications that come with the same and that is why we appeal to the government to hear our grievances and expedite the whole process,” said Nkanata.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Secretary to the Forum Councilor Geoffrey Mutai.

While commending the county government of Nakuru for the effort made in trying to cater for the welfare of former councillors,  Mutai was categorical that the issues to do with parking still has to be looked into.

He added that the issue of universal healthcare and medical schemes is still a challenge to some of them.

He also appealed to the county assembly of Nakuru to expedite the petition that was presented to the house concerning the payment of Sh30,000 per month for the former leaders.

“We are calling on all MPs from Nakuru to support our quest. We commend the county government of Nakuru for some of us have free vehicle parking in town but there is more that still needs to be done including the medical schemes."

The conference was also attended by Nakuru County Chief of Staff Njoroge Gichui as well as Political Affairs’ officer Beatrice Nyawira.

The duo assured the former civic leaders of the county government of Nakuru’s commitment towards ensuring their welfare is catered for.

Nyawira called on the former civic leaders to ensure they register companies so that they can get assistance through the various opportunities at the county government.

“We will work with you on the ground but we also call on you to ensure that you register companies so that you can get the tenders,” said Nyawira.

The Senate passed a Bill that requires 12,000 former councillors countrywide who served between 1963 and 2013 to be paid Sh1.5 million gratuities in one payout and Sh30, 000 monthly stipend.
