Veteran politician Koigi Wamwere now says that Nominated MP Maina Kamanda's endorsement of ODM's Imran Okoth for the Kibra seat could be having the support of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kamanda on Friday declared his support for Imran, only a day after Uhuru endorsed McDonald Mariga as the ruling Jubilee Party candidate for the same seat.
Wamwere says could be a well-calculated move from the president, as he seeks to both uphold his party's wish to have Mariga on the ballot and also retain his closeness with Raila.
He says that considering that Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga are in a truce, its very likely that he sent Kamanda to calm Raila down, after endorsing a candidate considered Deputy president William Ruto's ally.
He added that judging by the confidence Kamanda demonstrated during the announcement at Raila's Capitol Hill offices, it's very likely that he had Uhuru's backing since he personally possesses no political might.
"Kamanda has no political might. I think he was there as Uhuru's representative, to assure Raila that the unity is intact (Maina Kamanda hana nguvu yoyote. Mimi naona alienda pale kama mwakilishi wa Uhuru, kumwambia Raila bado tuko pamoja)," the former Subukia MP said on Saturday evening on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche show.
The former Assistant Cabinet Minister also predicted that Uhuru is not off the hook just yet, and could have to part ways with Raila in the event that Mariga beats Imran in the November 7 mini poll.
According to the leader who has worked with both parties at different times, Raila will not be a happy man with should Mariga carry the day, especially in a place he considered his bedrock.
"I don't see Raila being happy, I see him causing trouble if ODM losses. (Sioni kama Raila atafurahi hata kidogo, naona kama atatoa cheche kama ODM haitashinda)," he added.
