The government has moved to propose a bill that will block Kenyan citizens who did not register for Huduma Namba from taking part in or accessing crucial public services.
The Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday called for public participation and views on the proposed bill.
“The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government is, therefore, calling for views and proposals for consideration from members of the general public and any concerned stakeholders on the draft bill,” The announcement by Fred Matiang’I read as quoted by The Standard.
There will be an open forum for public participation on Thursday 25th at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi.
The proposed bill however contradicts a ruling by the High court which barred the government from preventing citizens without Huduma Namba from accessing public facilities.
Some of the activities that Kenyans will not engage in if the proposed bill is passed into a law include; not registering for marriages, no accessing electricity from their homes, no operating back accounts, no registering phone numbers, not accessing public healthcare, not accessing a passport, not registering as a voter among others.
The bill is basically proposing for Huduma Namba to be compulsory for all Kenyan Citizens.
