The meeting between ODM leader Raila Odinga, political and community leaders from Mt Kenya is a proof the region is fully behind the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has said.
Raila on Thursday met Senators and community leaders led by businessman Peter Munga to discuss about BBI, and how it will be used to solve some of the pertinent issues facing Mt Kenya residents.
The ODM boss also met Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi and his Nyandarua counterpart Francis Kimemia.
Following the meetings, Waiguru said that was an indication that the populous region was rallying behind the BBI and the handshake between Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"I said it! You see it! Now believe it! Mt. Kenya is fully supporting BBI and the handshake between H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta and H.E. Rt Hon Raila Odinga," the county boss tweeted.
A few days ago, Waiguru confirmed her colleagues have also backed the BBI and have rolled out a plan to popularise it in the coming days.
"We as governors of Mt. Kenya region agree that the future is BBI and we must be part of it. It was agreed that I would represent the region at the national steering committee tasked with BBI coordination. My colleague H.E Mwangi Wa Iria will lead the regional BBI committee," she said.
Raila said his meeting with Mt Kenya Senators was about discussing intentions of BBI and development needs of the region.
"We reviewed the BBI and its implications for matters critical to them including agriculture, representation, youth empowerment, sharing of revenue, national unity and economic well-being of the nation," the ODM boss said.
The Senators present were Irungu Kang'ata (Murang'a), Ephraim Maina (Nyeri), Isaac Mwaura (Nominated) and Nyandarua's Mwangi Githiomi.
“The people of Central welcome anything that will bring peace to our people. We welcome anything that will help the people of Kenya, stop fighting and live in peace,” Maina said after the meeting.
